Skillnet Ireland has published a three-year strategy addressing enterprise workforce development and upskilling requirements across Irish businesses. The government-backed organisation targets skills development through industry-led networks, supporting competitiveness, digital transformation and emerging capability needs.

Business Plus reports that the strategy prioritises green skills, digital capabilities, leadership development and sector-specific training aligned with national economic objectives. Skillnet Ireland operates through enterprise-led networks that identify skills gaps and deliver tailored training programmes funded through public-private partnerships.

The organisation stated that the strategy responds to accelerating technological change, climate transition requirements and evolving workplace practices that demand continuous workforce upskilling. The approach emphasises collaboration between enterprises, education providers and government to create responsive training ecosystems.

Skillnet Ireland supports over 70 enterprise networks covering sectors including technology, manufacturing, financial services, hospitality, retail and professional services. Networks bring together companies within specific industries or regions to pool resources, share expertise and coordinate skills development initiatives.

The three-year plan includes commitments to expand network coverage, increase training accessibility for small and medium enterprises, and strengthen partnerships with further and higher education institutions. Digital delivery models will be enhanced to reach geographically dispersed workforces and accommodate flexible learning requirements.

Green skills development represents a strategic priority, with networks supporting enterprises navigating sustainability transitions, circular economy practices and climate-related regulatory compliance. Training programmes address both technical capabilities and strategic competencies required for sustainable business transformation.

Leadership and management development features prominently, recognising that organisational change depends on capability at all levels. Programmes target supervisors, middle managers and senior executives, focusing on change leadership, innovation management and inclusive workplace practices.

Skillnet Ireland operates under the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science.
