Errigal Group has been named winner of the Apprenticeship Programme Award at the Education Awards 2026, recognised for an apprenticeship model that goes well beyond technical training to address the full development of the learner, setting a new standard for how organisations can design and deliver programmes that combine vocational skill-building with genuine pastoral care.
The Errigal Accelerator Pathway was developed in direct response to a critical skills shortage, and its design reflects an organisation that understands the problem it is solving. By integrating life skills development, pastoral support, and extracurricular activities alongside core training, the programme creates the conditions for apprentices to grow in confidence and capability simultaneously. Feedback from apprentices themselves, supported by imagery within the submission, gave the judges a clear and credible picture of the programme's real-world impact on those it serves.
The commitment to career progression within the organisation adds a further dimension of substance to the initiative, signalling that the investment in each apprentice extends beyond the duration of the programme itself.
Judges were direct in their praise, who were impressed by a programme that combines life skills, pastoral care, and extracurricular activities, setting a new standard for apprenticeships. “The Errigal Accelerator Pathway addresses a critical skills shortage with innovation and care. The entry, backed by apprentice feedback and imagery, highlights a holistic approach to learner development, with a clear commitment to career progression within the organisation," the panel stated.
The win reflects the standard the Education Awards apply to apprenticeship entries, where the strongest submissions demonstrate that excellence in workforce development is built not just on the transfer of technical skills but on a genuine investment in the people undertaking the programme.
The Education Awards 2026 gala took place on 16 April at the Johnstown Estate, Enfield, Co. Meath.
