North Tyneside-based Carney Consultancy has launched a new leadership development and coaching programme designed to support business owners and senior leaders experiencing stress, burnout and the personal pressures of modern leadership, as reported by Consultancy UK.

The programme was created and is delivered by Angela Carney, managing director of Carney Consultancy, following her own experience of burnout in 2023. During that period, Carney retrained as a Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) Master Practitioner and gained coaching accreditation through the Association for Coaching's 3 Principles approach, a framework focused on how thoughts create an individual's experience of stress, performance and wellbeing.

Established in 2002, Carney Consultancy primarily serves the construction and engineering sectors through quality, safety, health and environmental consultancy and training. The new programme operates through the firm's leadership development division alongside its consulting arm.

Carney said the programme emerged from a pattern she observed consistently across her professional career. "For 24 years I have run and grown Carney Consultancy, working closely with a great team and supporting clients. During this time, I kept seeing the same internal challenges holding leaders back, stress, burnout, self-doubt and difficulty stepping into strategic leadership," she said. "After experiencing burnout myself in 2023, that became a turning point for retraining in NLP and coaching to create something that addresses both sides of leadership, the practical and the personal."

The Modern Leadership programme begins with a complimentary 60-minute discovery session, available in person, online or outdoors, where clients explore their goals and challenges. A tailored coaching plan is then agreed, typically consisting of one to two hour sessions delivered weekly or fortnightly, focusing on identifying limiting beliefs, building accountability and strengthening communication, delegation, confidence and strategic thinking.

The programme is specifically designed to move business owners from reactive, high-pressure operating modes into more structured, long-term planning, with particular relevance for those preparing to scale, exit or hand over a business.

Carney said addressing internal leadership challenges produces measurable organisational benefits. "The programme focuses on coaching that addresses the internal side of leadership, the thinking patterns, emotional resilience, confidence, delegation and mental load that determine whether a business owner can implement change and sustain performance," she said.
