Selskar College in Wexford has secured €20,000 in funding through the 2025 Aviva Broker Community Fund, positioning the school among the top community award recipients nationwide. The funding forms part of a broader €140,000 allocation distributed to 58 organisations across Ireland, following 155 broker-nominated entries.
The secondary school was nominated by Teresa Bruen of Gallagher and received the top Community Organisation award.
Wexford Weekly's release said that the investment will be directed towards upgrading a practical classroom, with a focus on safety, accessibility and inclusion. The refurbished space is designed to support all learners, including students with additional needs and those attending the school’s autism unit.
Alongside physical improvements, the funding will provide new laptops to support portfolio-based learning and introduce enhanced STEM resources. These additions are intended to strengthen students’ digital and technical capabilities while ensuring equitable access to modern learning tools within a fully equipped environment.
The Aviva Broker Community Fund operates through nominations from brokers and financial advisers, enabling private-sector professionals to channel funding towards charities and community groups delivering local impact.
In addition to the top awards, participation grants of €700 were awarded to the first 50 eligible organisations nationwide, widening the reach of the programme.
Finalists were assessed by a judging panel comprising senior leaders from Aviva Ireland, alongside an external business consultant. The panel highlighted the quality of submissions and the measurable impact demonstrated by shortlisted organisations.
The initiative underscores how corporate-backed community funding can directly enhance learning infrastructure, digital readiness and inclusive provision at school level, while reinforcing collaboration between education providers and the financial services ecosystem.
