US-based AI safety company Anthropic has launched five free AI fluency courses on Coursera, expanding its learning content into education, student development and nonprofit applications, as reported by Edtech Innovation Hub, with the courses available as Community Impact courses to widen access to learning on urgent social needs.

The series is co-taught by Anthropic instructors alongside Professors Rick Dakan and Joseph Feller, who developed the research-backed AI Fluency Framework, and Giving Tuesday. The launch nearly doubles Anthropic's existing course catalogue on Coursera, according to the platform.

The foundational course, AI Fluency: Framework and Foundations, is listed at beginner level and runs approximately three hours, covering AI literacy, human-AI collaboration and generative AI through a 4D framework applied to hands-on projects. Coursera recommends learners begin with this course before progressing to the specialised offerings.

The four additional courses cover distinct professional contexts. AI Fluency for Educators addresses course design, teaching materials and authentic assessments grounded in pedagogy. Teaching AI Fluency focuses on curriculum integration and managing AI-enhanced student work. AI Fluency for Students covers using AI as a thought partner for learning and career development while maintaining critical thinking and creativity. AI Fluency for Nonprofits addresses AI use across fundraising, outreach, communications and operations.

Baker Stein, speaking for Anthropic, said accessible AI education sits at the centre of the company's mission. "As demand for Anthropic's AI tools continues to grow, the company remains committed to guiding the world through this major technological shift," he said. "Accessible AI education is central to that mission, and we're proud these courses will be available on Coursera for free as Community Impact courses."

Coursera CEO Greg Hart linked the launch directly to workforce readiness. "AI fluency is essential in today's workforce, especially for new graduates entering the job market," he wrote. "Learners build confidence to apply AI thoughtfully, responsibly, and effectively in real-world settings while strengthening creativity, judgment, and decision-making skills."

The education-focused courses are positioned as a practical resource for schools, colleges, universities and teacher development teams addressing how AI should be taught, integrated and assessed across curricula.
